When I got in the movie theater, the place got packed very quickly. This film is having a lot of press. It begins with P-Star Rising (Priscillia), a eight years old rapper, who is performing in a club in NYC with a hardcore rap crowd … I was all eyes. I couldn’t believe that this girl wearing pinkish outfits had this tough masculin audience.
P-Star Rising follows the story of this kid, her sister and their father who was a successful hip hop producer in the 80’s and is now trying to raise his children. The audience soak into this film carried by the sense of the family of this man, the peculiarity of Priscillia and the folkore that goes with hip hop lifestyle. Entertaining and moving. Enough to win a Tribeca Film Festival Award.
