Summer starts with an East Village BBQ

Summer grilling and barbecues are an American pastime, but finding the outdoor space is tough in Manhattan. Anylife was fortunate enough to receive a Memorial Day invitation in the East Village, complete with the following menu:

-corn, zuchini, squash, mushrooms
– skirt steak in korean bul-go-gi sauce
– chicken legs in Hsu’s marinade
– lamb kebobs in yogurt kebob sauce
– pork chop, brined with juniper berries
– homemade marshmallow
– grilled apricots
– coconut and saffron ice cream
-guacamole and chips
-white toast

Here’s the ice cream recipe from David Lebovitz’s excellent food blog. Our host, Nicole Fineman, modified the recipe slightly and used 2/3 cream and 1/3 low-fat milk, and light coconut milk. Enjoy! Shazna Nessa
