The High Line, an elevated public park opened today

06.08.highlineThe High Line was built in the 1930s along the river. It lifted freight traffic 30 feet in the air, removing dangerous trains from the streets of Man hattan’s largest industrial district.  It runs from 34th Street to Spring Street and since 1999, when the historic structure was under threat of demolition, friends of the High Line works with the City of New York to preserve and maintain the structure as an elevated public park. NYC has its coulée verte, a nice ribbon of greenery that holds a few nice strolls.RB
