Jane Hotel

JaneX4ballroomjanehotelJane Hotel opened a few days ago. MacPherson and Eric Goode, who already co-own the Bowery Hotel, the Maritime Hotel and the Waverly Inn restaurant, restored this 1907 storied watefront building. Originally it was an hotel for sailor with cabin like rooms that were actually kept. Thus, the rooms ($ 79) are super small – 50sq feet- and share the communal bathrooms (men and women) located at the end of the narrow hall on each floor. Even though, the renovation is tasteful, the ambiance choked me and actually the few clients I saw wouldn’t put a lonely woman at rest. I wouldn’t suggest the hotel even for young penniless hypsters for who the place was thought for. The Ace Hotel is a better option ($99) for this crowd and its location is way more convenient. But I would recommend the Ballroom, the lobby for all kind of meetings. The occasion to go in the far West Village and then take the time to stroll along the river or on the amazing Highline. RB
