This week, with Krauetler, their new partner, Hasted Hunt‘s gallery opened a new space right on 24th between 10 and 11th whereas the one on 20th is situated on the 2d floor.

The gallery represents a bunch of really cool photographers as Mark Cohen, Aaron Siskind, Erwin Olaf and Joel Witkin. For their first show, they are holding the beautiful Edward Burtinsky’s exhibition about oil. His pictures are like paintings.

Dress Codes: The Third ICP Triennial of Photography and Video opens tomorrow. The press preview happened this morning. This year, fashion is showed through image-makers aka contemporary artists … I have to say, the exhibition is confusing because it couldn’t avoid the void of contemporary art. That said I thought Tschape – photo above- has a fashion beauty on its flimsy and gauzy style, Cindy Sherman keeps on being funny and Hank Willis Thomas has a great idea to look at black advertisings in the 70’s and manipulated them.  The exhibition is worth for an individual prospective as for a global vision. I bet fashion photo editor and Creative Director as Grace Coddington will have a quick look at. RB©Tschape

Le fooding d’Amour NYC

foodingnycAlex Cammas who launched Le Fooding in Paris is having his first NYC event. He wanted to modernize the food business and turned it in a lifestyle. Last night at PS1, French and American chefs cooked food for a trendy crowd on their late 30’s. The place was crowded, nicely set and had good music thanks to Paul Sevigny, Kolkoz and Benjamin Moreau. For the rest, I let Shazna Nessa, our foodie expert, give her insights. Tonight is the last night. RB

The Americans at The Met

evans-frank-books

NYC holds for the first time The Americans in a museum, the amazing work Robert Frank did in 1955 on the American society. It showed its racism, its scary consumption and its hability to ignore the “ normal” people. Robert Frank’s photos are powerful, they put you right on the face of his subjects and the best is that the guy has a great sense of humour.

The MET put together a great exhibition. Even though, the photos are today pretty known, it’s always a pleasure to see them again but what is riveting, to me, is to have access to the manuscripts. The letters he sent to Walker Evans, the mail he had with Jack Kerouac and last but not least the collage he sent to his wife. Highly recommended.

Looking In: Robert Frank’s ‘The Americans’ ” runs from September 22nd through January 3rd

The 70’s and the 80’s in NYC at the MoMa

Patti smithThe MoMa is holding an exhibition about NYC and its musical and literary/poet scene in the 70’s and 80’s. Means : Debbie Harry, Jenny Holzer, Basquiat, Patty Smith …. Art and music intertwined and create great Art. Some designed and published their own records and zines and used public-access cable as a venue for media experiments and cultural debates. Photos, magazines, record covers,  Tv shows and art –David Wojnarowicz did a great poster, sorry I can not find the picture of it- show the connexion that happened then between music and words.  Really nice to swing by, once you walk through the photo gallery and keep being riveted by Garry Winogrand, Friedlander, Strand and all these great American photographers. Till november, 30. RB © Patti Smith autoportrait

Black Panthers at the New Museum

EmoryDouglas2

Emory Douglas became the Minister of Culture for the Black Panther Party in 1967 and held the job since the early 80’s. He is the one who create the amazing print trade of this revolutionary movement. The New Museum presents more than 150 Black Panther’s covers,  the Party’s weekly newspaper and posters. Nothing better for the mind than the art inspired by politics meaning the rules that govern a country. Check it out. The exhibition runs till october 18th and don’t miss “Living with conviction : A Black Panther Party movies serie“. RB © Emory Douglas

NYC’s photos

It’s Long Island, not Manhattan which can be a problem, yet Julian Goldstein and Kat Kohl ‘s work is worth checking out.

Goldstein‘s scrutinizes the surroundings of his New York. Kat Kohl explores the shaping of light and shadow through the use of architectonic forms. RB©Julian Goldstein

The exhibition opens today and go through september 5th.
